Willshire,OH : 1 dead and 4 injured in State Route 81 accident on may, sunday 14th 2017
A Wapakoneta woman died after a head-on collision between two vehicles on State Route 81 on Sunday.
Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach stated the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 11:45 a.m. Sunday of a two-vehicle collision on State Route 81 between Willshire-Eastern Road and State Route 49 North.
A 2009 Volkswagen EOS driven by Michael Schlenker, age 67, of Wapakoneta and a 2012 Honda Civic driven by Stephanie Wysong, age 32, of Willshire were involved in the collision.
The Honda Civic came to rest on the roadway and the Volkswagen came to rest in a yard along the road. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
A passenger in the Volkswagen, Joyce Schlenker, age 57, of Wapakoneta sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Van Wert County Coroner Scott Jarvis. Joyce Schlenker was transported to the Van Wert County Hospital by Wren EMS.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Michael Schlenker, was taken to Lutheran Hospital by Lutheran Air.
The driver of the Honda Civic, Wysong, was transported to Parkview Hospital by Mercy Health Life Flight. There were two passengers in the Honda Civic, a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy. Both of the children were transported to Parkview Hospital by Samaritan helicopter. The condition of the all the injured was last listed as critical.
Both drivers and all passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Riggenbach said the investigation of the accident is continuing.
Assisting at the scene were Wren Fire and EMS, Willshire Fire Department, Ohio City EMS, Rockford EMS, Convoy EMS, Van Wert EMS, Van Wert EMA and 2A’s Auto.
