Columbia, SC : Driver killed in crash on I-77 on Tuesday morning, April 19, 2016
The Richland County Coroner has released the name of a driver who was killed when he was thrown from a vehicle on Interstate 77, striking two other vehicles and overturning Tuesday morning.
Highway Patrol Trooper David Jones said the driver of a Ford Explorer was traveling south on I-77 and lost control near mile marker 4, striking a 2012 Ford Fiesta and then hitting a driver in a Chevrolet Tahoe. The Explorer driver then went off to the right side of the interstate and overturned several times. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.
The Explorer driver was taken to Palmetto Health Richland where he died several hours later from injuries sustained in the crash. Coroner Gary Watts says the man's name is Michael Christopher Jackson of Columbia.
The drivers in the other two vehicles, who were wearing seat belts, were also transported with injuries to Palmetto Health Richland.
S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
