Pensacola, FL : Bicyclist dies after being hit by car near Coral Creek Road on Monday, August 1, 2016
A Pensacola man has died after being hit by a car while riding his bike.
According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Martin Curran, 22, of Pensacola was traveling westbound along the north edge of Sorrento Road near Coral Creek Road around 8:55 p.m. Monday. Breanna Rodriguez, 18, of Elberta, Alabama, also was traveling westbound on Sorrento Road when she approached Curran on his bike. Rodriguez attempted to pass Curran by entering the center painted median, according to the report.
As Rodriguez was passing Curran, he veered into the center painted median directly into the path of Rodriguez causing the front left side of her car to collide with the bicyclist, the report stated.
Curran was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Rodriguez and her passenger, Heather Barton, 24, of Foley, Alabama, were not injured in the collision.
Charges are pending the outcome of a traffic homicide investigation.
