Pulaski, WI : One killed when bus, car collide on Wisconsin 29 and St. Augustine near Pulaski on Tuesday, September 2, 2014
One person was killed and 14 were injured when a school bus collided with a car shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday on Wisconsin 29 near Pulaski.
Both vehicles came to rest in fields on either side of the intersection of 29 and St. Augustine Street.
The bus was carrying members of the Pulaski volleyball team and returning from a match in Seymour. A passenger in the car, which was mangled and covered in tarps after the incident, died, while the driver has life-threatening injuries, according to Suamico Fire Chief Douglas Dofer. Thirteen students were injured.
The crash scene was at the Brown-Shawano county line. Westbound 29 traffic was diverted at the Wisconsin 32 intersection, while the eastbound lanes of 29 remained open.
A mother of one girl said her daughter was taken to St. Vincent Hospital, although the girl was expected to be OK and was able to call her mother while still on the bus. Another student who wouldn't give name said the car sideswiped back of bus.
Lauren Shaw, a nurse practitioner who was heading home from work and stopped at the scene to assist, said "at least a couple of kids appeared to have been knocked out".
