Thonotosassa FL : Spilled cup of coffee led to a school bus crash on thursday morning at 6.30am on May 1st 2014.
Authorities say a spilled cup of coffee led to a school bus crash that sent 14 Armwood High students to the hospital on Thursday morning.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's investigators say Logan Slanders, 15, of Thonotosassa, was driving a Ford F-150 southbound on Highway 579 when he dropped and spilled a cup of coffee at about 6:30 a.m.
Slanders leaned over to pick up the coffee and when he looked up, it was too late to avoid hitting the school bus in front of him. The bus had momentarily stopped because of traffic.
20 Armwood High students were on the bus that was driven by Darlene Bennett, age 64.
Bennett and 14 students on the bus complained of minor injuries. They were treated and released from a local hospital.
Logan Slanders received minor injuries and was taken to a walk-in medical facility by his mother.
He was charged with one count of careless driving and one count of failure to wear a seat belt.
Investigators say alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.
