Haines City, FL : Two people died in four-vehicle crash on U.S. 27 in Haines City Monday May 9th, 2016
Two people died Monday, including a 9-year-old child, in a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 27 in Haines City.According to the Haines City Police Department, four vehicles and 10 people were involved in the 4 p.m. crash on U.S. 27 near Patterson Road.
Police said a 2012 Mazda CX9 was northbound on U.S. 27 when it crossed over the center median and into the southbound lanes, striking a 2008 Lexus.
The Mazda then continued, hitting a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. The Hyundai then went into the path of a Toyota Camry. The collision between those vehicles left the Hyundai on top of the Toyota.
Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene, along with at least seven medical helicopters. Two adults and five children were transported.
According to authorities, Eric Frazier, 57, of Winter Haven died at the scene. Kemarion Hunter, 9, of Winter Haven, was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he died.
Polk County Schools said Hunter was a student at Garden Grove Elementary School in Winter Haven. Grief counselors were made available to students and staff today.
