Echo, UT : Truck driver injurid in crash I-80 Friday July 18th 2014.
The condition of a truck driver who sustained life-threatening injuries in a fiery collision with another semi-trailer rig on Interstate 80 near the Utah-Wyoming border remained unchanged Friday.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said that Roger Davidson, 44, of West Jordan, had been in critical condition at University Hospital in Salt Lake City since being flown there on Wednesday from the accident scene in Echo Canyon. The crash occurred in Wednesday’s predawn when one westbound semi rear-ended the other, which had partially pulled over to the side of the road with a mechanical problem.
The accident — at milepost 182, about 15 miles west of the Wyoming state line — resulted in closure of the westbound lanes of the freeway to the state line well into Wednesday night.
It was one semi’s load of car batteries and the other big rig’s load of several hundred gallons of cleaning chemical that fed intense blaze that destroyed both rigs and damaged the road’s surface.
