Bicyclist dies from hit and run injuries suffered in Panorama City accident
A bicyclist who was struck in a hit-and-run collision in Panorama City last week has died, officials said Tuesday. The victim was described only as a 56-year-old man.The incident happened Dec. 23 around 7 a.m., near the intersection of Lanark Street and Burnet Avenue, and police are asking for the public’s help to find the driver of the car.
We went back again and canvassed the area, looking for cameras or anything that could help, but it’s residential, so there weren’t any,” said Officer Scott DeWitt of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.Neighbors heard the crash, but when they came out the car was gone. We’re going to find this person if they tell someone else about it, who might tell us.”
According to police, the bicyclist was riding westbound on Burnet when he was hit by an unknown vehicle traveling south on Lanark. The driver fled the scene, leaving the severely hurt man in the street.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department took the unidentified victim to a local hospital in critical condition. He was later disconnected from life support.
No description of the car or driver has been seen, but police say it is likely there is damage to the car and they are hoping someone may have seen the incident. It wouldn’t be heavily damaged, because the bike didn’t look too bad, but we did find clear plastic fragments on the ground that probably came from a broken left front turning light,” DeWitt said.
