Jacksonville, FL : Motorcyclist doing wheelie dies following crash in Mandarin on Thursday, August 18, 2016
A 28-year-old Jacksonville motorcyclist who witnesses said was doing a wheelie was killed Thursday in Mandarin after crashing into a sport-utility vehicle on San Jose Boulevard, police said.
Justin Lamar Hill of Marbon Estates Court was southbound on San Jose shortly before 9 p.m. and appeared to be riding recklessly prior to the crash at Loretto Road, according to police.
Witnesses said the motorcycle was being ridden on its back wheel when it collided with the SUV turning left into a parking lot. Hill hit the rear passenger side of the SUV and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Hill was taken to Orange Park Medical Center but later died. The other driver’s name was not released.
About 12 hours later Friday morning another motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries at 10500 Deerwood Park Blvd.
A 23-year-old man was riding eastbound when the driver of a Mitsubishi sport-utility vehicle turned into his path trying to enter the Greystone Business Park, police said. The motorcyclist was thrown onto the roadway and taken to a hospital. The driver, only identified as a 61-year-old woman, was not injured.
It is early in the investigation, but police said speed may have been a factor on the part of the motorcycle.
Information wasn’t available in either case whether the motorcyclists were wearing helmets.
