Marysville, CA : Woman dies Monday morning in head-on collision on Monday, December 19th 2016
A woman was killed Monday morning when the vehicle she was driving was struck head-on by a Yuba City driver attempting to pass traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim had not been indentified as of Monday evening.
The collision happened at 4:35 a.m. on Highway 20 west of Sutter near Southridge Boulevard and caused the highway to be closed for about two hours, the CHP said in a press release.
Jasbir Singh Basra, 59, of Yuba City was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Highway 20 when he crossed double-yellow lines into the eastbound lane in attempt to pass traffic, the release says.
The Chevrolet crashed head-on into a 1994 Jeep Cherokee and immediately caught fire. Basra was transported to Rideout Regional Medical Center by Bi-County Ambulance for minor injuries.
He was not arrested, the release says.
The driver of the Jeep died at the scene, according to the CHP.
Personnel from the Sutter Fire Department, Meridian Fire Department, Sutter Sheriff's Department, and California Department of Transportation assisted CHP officers.
Drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors, the release says.
