Statesville, North Carolina
A car crashed into a tree southwest of Statesville Thursday morning, claiming the life of one person and injuring two others, authorities said.
The names of those involved have not been released.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the white passenger car traveling west in the 500 block of Celeste Eufola Road ran off the right side of the pavement, Trooper Brett Marr said. The driver overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road, striking a tree head-on.
A female passenger was killed.
Iredell EMS transported the driver and a second passenger to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, according to EMS director Blair Richey. One was in critical condition and the other in stable condition, she said.
Todd Crawford, who lives near the scene, said he heard the crash and was the first one to reach the car. He said the backseat driver was able to escape the vehicle himself, but the other two were trapped.
