Franklin Township, NJ : Child dies after being struck by police vehicle in Franklinville on Sunday night, December 28, 2014

A 10-year-old boy walking to a friend's house for a sleepover has been struck and killed by a police cruiser in Franklin Township.

Family members tell Philadelphia's that the boy was walking with two friends Sunday evening when he was hit at Delsea Drive and Paul Street by a Franklin Township police cruiser. He was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident around 7 p.m.

Police say the officer was responding to a call. They say the officer, who was not identified, has been taken to a hospital. They did not say whether he was injured.

Gloucester County Chief of Detectives John Porter offered condolences to the boy's family. He says the accident is under investigation.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
