MERCED COUNTY, CA : 1 person dead following head-on crash in Merced County on Tuesday, 26th December 2023

One person is dead following a head-on crash in Merced County.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to a reported head-on crash on Highway 59 and Rahilly Road just after 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers say a box truck was driving northbound on Highway 59 when the driver of an SUV going southbound went into the path of the box truck.

Both vehicles collided head-on, killing the SUV driver.

It's unknown why the SUV driver went onto the northbound lanes.

Highway 59 is closed at this time and you're asked to avoid the area.
