MONTICELLO, VA : 1 dead, another loses an arm in Monticello crash on state Route 191 on Monday, 1st July 2019

One person is dead and another lost their arm after a pickup truck crashed into a semitruck on state Route 191 Monday afternoon.

The crash happened a little after noon Monday about 10 miles north of Monticello, according to a news release from Utah Department of Public Safety.

DPS officials said a Ford F-350 work truck pulling a cargo box trailer was southbound in a construction zone, traveling over the construction zone speed limit, when the crash occurred. A semitruck hauling a 53 box trailer was stopped in traffic because of the construction. There was also a pilot car “performing intermittent traffic movement,” because of the construction, the release states.

The truck, which had four people inside, didn’t see the semi was stopped and tried to pass on the left when it struck the semi’s box trailer, the news release said, causing severe damage to the passenger side of the F-350. The truck then spun around to the front of the semi and also struck the front end of the semi.

The F-350 then spun out of control before stopping down the shoulder, according to authorities.

The right-rear passenger of the truck died on impact, the news release said. The passenger in the front seat was badly injured, losing an arm in the crash. That person was transported to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
