Fort Worth , TX : 28 yeas old man and his 2 years old son were killed and wife was injured after crash near Dalrock Road on Tuesday ,. December

Like many new parents, Laura and Jarred Schumpert doted on their 2-year-old son.

Laura Schumpert, a professional photographer from Missouri, documented the boy’s achievements through photos she posted on Facebook for her friends, family and fans.

LJ’s first Halloween, LJ’s first words, LJ’s first Christmas.

“All my life I have been trying to find my niche or purpose in life......who knew it was being a Mom???? Love my boy,” Laura Schumpert posted on Facebook a few months after she gave birth.

On Tuesday, a crash on Interstate 30 in Garland brought an abrupt end to that album of memories with her husband and son.

Police say the family was headed home to Cape Girardeau, Mo., after visiting relatives in the Dallas area, when a Chevy Suburban rear-ended their Ford Escape SUV near the Bobtown Road exit.

Jarred Schumpert, 28, and his son, Lyndon, died at the scene.

Laura Schumpert, who was driving the Escape, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The Suburban’s driver, Mikel Loftin, 20, of Bogata, was also hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, police said.

Witnesses said the crash occurred about 9:15 p.m. as traffic was slowing because of another accident on the interstate, near Dalrock Road. No injuries were reported in the earlier crash.

Garland police spokesman Joe Harn said it appears the Schumperts were wearing seat belts when they were rear-ended. LJ was in a car seat.

“It’s horrible,” said Harn, at a loss for words to describe the fiery accident. He said police plan to talk to the district attorney’s office to determine whether to file charges against Loftin.

Jarred and Laura Schumpert went to Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., a school spokeswoman said.

A native of Gilmer, he played football for SBU and led his team in total tackles for four years — the only player in his school with that accomplishment, according to a 2009 news release from the school.

“Schump was the hardest worker we’ve had in this program,” coach Robert Clardy said in a written statement. “He was a true man of character and integrity and was looked up to by every member of this program. ... He will be truly missed.”
