MARATHON COUNTY, WI : One dead in Marathon County after a one-car crash on Friday, 9th February 2024

One man is dead after his car left the roadway and struck a rock in the ditch on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, a 76-year-old man from Schofield was driving east on County Highway C near Elderon in Marathon County when his car left the highway and went into the south ditch, striking a large rock and starting on fire. The man was pulled from the vehicle by passing good Samaritans but was unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts from the passerby and emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
