Anderson County, S.C : Motorcyclist killed in head-on collision near Dixon Road, outside of Anderson on Saturday night, July 2, 2016

State troopers say a motorcycle driver was killed Saturday night in a head-on collision with a car.

Troopers said the crash happened around 10:45 p.m. Saturday along Dunn Road near Dixon Road, outside of Anderson.

Troopers said the motorcycle crossed the center line and hit the car head-on.

The Anderson County deputy coroner, Don McCown said Timothy Van Campbell, 47, was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

"The big issue here is Mr. (Van) Campbell did not have a helmet on, which is always a contributing factor to the head trauma," McCown said.

McCown said Van Campbell was less than a mile from his home when the crash happened.

Officials at the crash site said he was at a neighbor's house before the accident.

"Of course, we are at the Fourth of July weekend, so we can only remind drivers just be aware of each other while we're out there," McCown said.

The driver of the car was injured and taken to AnMed with minor injuries.

The person's condition is unknown at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Anderson County Coroners Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol office.
