Newhall, CA : Lancaster woman was killed in a single-car crash on Highway 14 in Newhall on Monday night, December 29, 2014

A Lancaster woman was killed in the Santa Clarita Valley Monday night after her vehicle careened off Highway 14 and overturned.

The crash occurred about 9:31 p.m. on southbound Highway 14 just north of Newhall Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol collision report.

The driver lost control of her 2003 Chevy after making an “unsafe turning movement to the right,” the report said.

The vehicle veered off the freeway, colliding with the guardrail before going airborne and plunging off the freeway bridge to the center of Newhall Avenue below.

After landing on Newhall Avenue, the vehicle rolled up a dirt embankment south of the roadway edge, coming to rest on its roof.
