Pointe Coupee Parish, LA : Fordoche Man dies in single-vehicle crash on LA 77 Saturday night, Aug 29, 2015

Authorities suspect a driver was impaired in Point Coupee when his vehicle flipped off of the road, killing him.

Louisiana State Police says that late Saturday night, 29-year-old Matthew Martin, of Fordoche, was travelling southbound on LA 77. As he was coming up on a left hand curve, Martin ran his vehicle off of the road.

An investigation shows that Martin overcorrected his vehicle, which caused his car to flip and start spinning. The victim’s vehicle stopped when it struck a tree on the car’s passenger side.

Louisiana State Police say that the victim was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Point Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was taken at the scene and will be sent to state police labs for analysis.
