San Diego, CA : Driver crashes stolen car after wild chase and Escaped on Monday ,June 29th 2015

San Diego police are still searching for a man who crashed a stolen car in the Fairmount Park area early Monday morning after a high-speed chase that traversed several neighborhoods.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the incident began at about 3 a.m. in Spring Valley when a deputy spotted a white-colored Toyota Camry going south on Sweetwater Road. The car briefly stopped in a bike lane and a man got out and started to walk away.

As the deputy pulled alongside the car, the man suddenly ran back to the vehicle jumped inside and sped off.

A chase ensued, winding its way through Spring Valley, Bonita and Chula Vista, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. The car eventually made its way onto Interstate 805 north. The driver lost control on the I-805 north onramp to State Route 94 and crashed.

The driver and a female passenger jumped out of the car and ran. Deputies and California Highway Patrol officers swarmed the area and caught the passenger, identified as 19-year-old Roxana Covarrubius.

During the pursuit, officers learned the car had been reported stolen.

The driver, believed to be a Hispanic man, 5-foot-8 and 23 years old, remains at large. Covarrubius will likely be charged with possession of a stolen car and conspiracy.

CHP briefly shut down the freeway interchange while they searched the area, but reopened it before 5 a.m.
