Hillsboro, OR : Three injured in Wrong-way driver caused crash along Hwy 26 on Saturday morning, September 6, 2014
A wrong-way driver causes Highway 26 to close for over 3 hours. Hillsboro police are investigating the driver that caused a three-car crash.
At around 2 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a vehicle stopped facing eastbound in the westbound lanes along Highway 26, to the east of NW Cornelius Pass Rd.
When police arrived to the car, a black Hyundai passenger car, it began to accelerate and drive away from the officer. Additional police tried to purse the vehicle but the driver, a 57-year-old woman, refused to stop.
The driver then struck a white Volvo SUV approximately one-quarter mile west of the Sylvan Rd. exit. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle following the Volvo, a green Nissan passenger car, to crash.
The driver of the Volvo, a 27-year-old male, and the passenger of the Nissan, a 47-year-old male, were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai was transported to Emanuel Hospital with a broken back, ribs and hip. She remains in the hospital but is expected to recover.
Investigators believe that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. There have been no citations issued at this time.
