York,NE : One killed in multi-vehicle crash on May,Wednesday 30th 2018
One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 80, near the Beaver Crossing exit, on Wednesday.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, just before 4:30 p.m., a semi hauling cars was eastbound when it struck the back of a 2018 Mercedes SUV.
The patrol says the semi then crossed the median and hit another semi head-on.
The driver of the initial semi (the one that was eastbound) was pronounced dead at the scene, according to information provided by the patrol. He was identified as Mitchell Quandt, 30, of Yutan.
The driver of the westbound semi was transported to York General Hospital. The injuries of that person were not life threatening, investigators said. That driver was identified as Claudio Maurelia, 73, of Inverness, Ill.
Two people in the SUV, including driver Rodney Wilkerson, 53, of Glenvil, were not injured.

Maurelia and Wilkerson were wearing seat belts, the patrol said, and Quandt was not restrained.
The semi that crossed the median had a cargo of cars, some of which were strewn about the scene after having been ejected from the trailer.
Westbound traffic was diverted at the Goehner exit as the State Patrol investigated and the area was cleaned up. There was a secondary crash in backed-up traffic leading to the exit, but there were no serious injuries reported.
One lane of westbound I-80 was eventually opened, and around 8:25 p.m. both lanes were opened.
