Jacksonville, FL : Deputy not seriously hurt in Yulee rollover crash on Wednesday evening, December 28, 2016
A Nassau County sheriff’s deputy wasn’t seriously hurt following a rollover crash involving an agency SUV and another vehicle in Yulee Wednesday evening, authorities said.
Troopers were called to the crash on William Burgess Boulevard near Harts Road about 5:45 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Deputy James Ennis was heading west on William Burgess Boulevard with its lights and sirens switched on about 5:40 p.m. when it maneuvered into the left lane to pass a westbound Chevrolet Cruze, troopers said.
As the Tahoe was passing, the Cruze made a left turn and struck the rear of the SUV, sending it careening off the road, according to the Highway Patrol. Troopers said the SUV ran into a street sign and fire hydrant and then rolled over onto its roof.
Ennis, 46, had minor injuries. Shatovia Smith, 20, of Jacksonville wasn’t hurt and was cited for failing to yield the right of way when making a left turn, according to the FHP.
