GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, MI : One person is dead after a fiery crash on Interstate 196 on Tuesday early morning August 19th 2014
One person is dead after a fiery crash on I-196 in Ottawa County.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday on the interstate at the junction with the M-6 freeway.
Investigators say the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit the wall of the M-6 overpass. The car caught fire, and the driver was thrown from the vehicle. He was apparently not wearing a seatbelt, say investigators.
Emergency crews gave the driver CPR, but were unable to revive him.
Michigan State Police say the victim was a 46-year-old man from Wyoming. They are not releasing his name until his family is notified.
As of 6:30 a.m., only one eastbound lane was open on I-196. Troopers expected the other lanes to remain closed for at least an hour.
