A car-semi crash claimed the life of a woman Wednesday morning in Johnson County, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 11:50 a.m. on US-169 highway, just south of 199th Street in Spring Hill.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s online crash log, a 2014 Ford Edge was following a 2013 Volvo semi-trailer as both were headed south on the highway.
For unknown reasons, the Ford rear-ended the semi, then exited to the right — or west — side of the road. The Ford drove across the ditch, struck a fence then continued in a southwest direction until it hit a tree.
The Ford’s driver, identified as Jera Luann Fahey, 50, of Paola, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi, Wayne E. Cornwell, II, 44, of Olathe, was reported injured and was transported to Olathe Medical Center. His condition wasn’t immediately available. The patrol said Cornwell was wearing a seat belt.
