Bennington, VT : Several people injured in a head-on collision on Route 9 near the Woodford town line on Sunday, July 3, 2016

A head-on collision on Route 9 in Bennington sent several people to the hospital.

Police say it happened around 1:30 p.m. near the Woodford town line. They say an eastbound car attempted to pass other cars and ran into a car coming the opposite direction. Police say at least three of the six occupants were taken to the hospital, some with serious injuries. Officials say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Traffic on Route 9 was shut down for at least 1.5 hours.
