Gainesville, FL : Interlachen man dies in Orange Springs crash on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017

A man died in a single-vehicle crash in Orange Springs on Wednesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the man later in the day as Nicholas Link, 29, of Interlachen.

The 2016 Dodge Charger driven by Link was headed southwest on County Road 315, approaching a left-hand curve, when the vehicle went off the road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper at the scene.

The vehicle struck shrubs, small trees and a fence, and ended up lying on its side in a front yard.

Troopers said it was not immediately clear if speed was a factor.

According to the FHP website, troopers were dispatched at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday. The location was listed as 24430 NE CR 315.

Marion County Fire Rescue Spokesman James Lucas said they were dispatched at 5:03 a.m. and arrived at 5:16 a.m. Link was pronounced dead at 5:28 a.m.

Lucas said that when they arrived, the vehicle was on its side and the driver was trapped. He said firefighters had to stabilize the vehicle before getting to the victim.

Ron Cirocco, who lives nearby, said he was awakened by a loud crash but thought it might be a truck backfiring and did not go outside. He said drivers regularly speed around that corner.
