Harvey County, KS : Wichita man died in head on collision on US Highway 50 in Harvey County on Monday evening, January 5, 2015

A Wichita man died in a fiery, head on collision in Harvey County Monday evening.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, troopers responded to a two vehicle crash at 6:04 p.m. on US Highway 50, milemarker 277, in Harvey County.

Michael Ehss, 54, Wichita, was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry eastbound on Highway 50 and Jeffrey Duhsmann, 47, West Point, Neb., was driving westbound on Highway 50 driving a semi-truck hauling cattle.

Ehss merged into the westbound lanes to pass a vehicle, but he collided head on with Duhsmann, according to KHP. Ehss' vehicle slid and stopped in an eastbound ditch where it caught fire. Duhsmann vehicle rolled and landed on its side in the westbound ditch and also caught fire.

Ehss died at the scene and Duhsmann was taken to Wesley Medical Center. Both men were wearing seat belts.
