Fayetteville , NC : Pedestrian died in a deadly hit-and-run on Monday night August 11th 2014
Fayetteville, North Carolina
The State Highway Patrol is asking the public for help in locating a hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian in Fayetteville Monday night.
Just after 10 p.m. Monday a pedestrian, Ronald Reed Jr., 31, of Parkton, was hit and killed on Cumberland Road near Boone Trail, authorities said.
First responders said they heard Reed was visiting family in the area. Reed’s neighbor in Parkton, Miriam Ulrich said Reed leaves behind a wife and two kids.
“I was shocked and couldn't help but shed some tears myself,” Ulrich said. “He was a good man, real friendly. He meant a lot to me, and I'm going to miss him.”
The Highway Patrol recovered a small piece of chrome trim from the scene that may help with the investigation. Otherwise there are few clues to who hit reed. There are no witnesses and no suspect vehicle was found after a search of the area.
After impact, Reed's body came to rest near the Cumberland Road Fire Department.
Investigators will be reviewing security cameras at the fire department for any footage that may help the investigation.
