One person died in a crash involving a dump truck and Jeep SUV that injured three other people and left the vehicles burning in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 Thursday morning.
Denver Police Sgt. Mike Clark said the truck and Jeep collided at about 52nd Avenue, causing both vehicles to veer to the right, running over the shoulder and pushing the Jeep up on the Jersey barrier on the east side of the highway.
A fire broke out and consumed the Jeep, he said, killing a passenger who was in the back seat of the vehicle. Three other people in the Jeep went to the hospital, two of them were in critical condition, Clark said during a Periscope press conference.
The driver of the truck, Clark said, was cleared by paramedics at the scene.
Northbound traffic on I-25 was shut down between 42nd and 58th avenues following the accident, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
At 11:20 a.m. Denver police said on Twitter, that two lanes of Northbound I-25 were open at 50th Avenue.
Clark said he hopes to have the highway reopen before the afternoon rush begins.
