A 68-year-old Linton man was killed in an automobile accident in Vigo County on Tuesday.
Russell W. Ewers was driving north on U.S. 41 near Boot City when his vehicle went into the median, officials reported. The car traveled through a ditch, became airborne, then rolled through the southbound lanes before landing in a field.
He was ejected from the vehicle, and a witness called 911 and started Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Ewers was transported to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute where he died of his injuries.
Ewers was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War, and received two purple hearts. He attended Vincennes University, graduating in 1992 and became a registered nurse. He worked at various places throughout his career.
He is survived by his fiance’, Saralee Bledsoe of Linton, whom he was to marry Saturday, March 17. He is also survived by his two sons, Rusty (Dawn) Ewers and Kevin (Amy) Ewers, both of Linton; a daughter, Vicki Mattingly; eight grandchildren, Dalton (Kelli), Madison, Aubrey, Jamison, Kaylin, Chase, Delani and Matthew; a great-granddaughter, Karter; his sister-in-law, Rita Ewers; and several nieces and nephews.
