Madras,OR : Pedestrian killed on NE Sandy Boulevard on March, Thursday 22nd 2018

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Northeast Portland on Thursday evening.

The name of the adult male victim was not immediately released.

The adult male driver, who was not immediately identified either, remained on the scene.

The death was at least the eighth traffic fatality in Portland in 2018. Six people had been killed in crash by this time last year.

According to police, at 9:12 p.m. on March 21, North Precinct officers responded to the report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 12200 block of northeast Sandy Boulevard.

When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they located an adult male on the ground who had suffered from serious injuries as a result of the crash. Medical personnel provided medical aid, but determined the pedestrian was deceased.

Based on preliminary information, officers believe the pedestrian was crossing Northeast Sandy Boulevard when he was struck by a grey Subaru Legacy that was traveling westbound.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team iresponded to continue the investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division also responding to assist .

Northeast Sandy Boulevard was closed to vehicle traffic between Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 125th Avenue for several hours.
