Orlando, FL : Driver charged with DUI after SUV crashes into motel on early Wednesday morning September 10th 2014
The owners of an Orlando motel have a lot of repair work to do after an SUV crashed into the side of the building.
The crash happened at the Howard Vernon motel on Colonial Drive.
Code enforcement officers examined the damage and determined the building is structurally fine and will not be condemned.
Crews boarded up the hole in the building and towed the damaged SUV.
Orlando police said they arrested the driver and suspected she was intoxicated.
"I've been through a lot of stuff myself. It doesn't constitute you drinking and driving. It really doesn't. You ain't getting nothing out of it. All you're gonna do is end up in jail or take somebody's life and pretty much that ain't worth it," said resident Dante Moseley.
Police said the driver told them she was heading west on Colonial Drive early Wednesday morning when another driver cut her off, causing her to swerve across to the eastbound side of traffic and crash into the building.
However, police said they have not confirmed that story.
The woman in her 30s was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was charged with DUI. Her name has not been released.
No one else was injured in the crash.
The motel manager told he thinks the century-old, solid brick construction saved the lives of people inside and kept the building from being destroyed.
