Ann Arbor, MI : Two killed in fatal U.S. 23 crash Thursday afternoon on July 3, 2014

The two people killed in the fatal car accident on U.S. 23 Thursday afternoon were leaving Ann Arbor and going home for the holiday weekend.

Michigan State Police have not issued a release, but a relative of one of the deceased confirmed Friday that 19-year-old Dakota Gonzales and 18-year-old Curt Orlowski of Tecumseh died in the crash.

Michelle Gonzales, Dakota's mother, said her son was a student at Cornerstone University, where he played soccer. Orlowski was a rising sophomore at Northwood University, she said.

Gonzales and Orlowski had been working in Ann Arbor over the summer at in the University of Michigan facilities department.

“They were student workers,” William Spencer, their supervisor, said.
