LEAF RIVER, IL : Six hurt in Ogle crash at the intersection of Mount Morris Road and state Route 72 on Friday, 27th December, 2019
An Oregon man remained in critical condition Sunday after a two-vehicle crash Friday that injured six people, among them a 5-year-old girl.
Victor Heather, 18, was admitted to Mercy Health's Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford after the crash. Ogle County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene at 12:02 p.m. Friday, at the intersection of Mount Morris Road and state Route 72, west of Leaf River.Deputies said in a news release that a Honda passenger car driven by Heather was southbound on Mount Morris Road, approaching the intersection with Route 72 ,when Heather failed to stop at the stop sign. His vehicle then struck a Kia SUV, driven by Jason Viverito, 42, of Davis Junction, traveling eastbound on Route 72.
Heather’s vehicle came to rest in the intersection, facing north. The Kia was pushed into the south ditch on impact, overturned, and came to rest in the ditch on its side, facing east. Heather was extricated from his vehicle and taken by Mount Morris Ambulance to Javon Bea.
Passengers in the Kia were Steve Klassen, 62, of Davis Junction; Dawn Klassen, 58, of Davis Junction; Curtis Sherman, 63, of Loves Park; and a 5-year-old girl from Davis Junction. All of the occupants were taken to SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford for treatment of serious injuries. Their conditions were unavailable Sunday.
