Two Oak Harbor residents were killed in a head-on accident on Highway 20 Monday morning, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Kenneth Bruneau, 79, was northbound in a 2011 Mazda 2 and crossed into the southbound lane of the highway south of the intersection with Libbey Road.
Sharon Tobin, 59, was traveling south on the highway in a 2000 Toyota Camry.
The two cars collided head-on and came to a rest in the southbound lane.
The accident was reported at 5:18 a.m.
The cause of the accident, the state patrol reported, was that Bruneau was driving in the opposite lane of traffic.
It is unknown at this point whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Both vehicals were totaled.
The highway was shut down for more than two hours as troopers and the coroner investigated the accident scene.
