Carlsbad man killed in highway crash in Carlsbad New Mexico
A Carlsbad man was killed Saturday night in a two-car collision on Highway 62-180, according to New Mexico State Police.Alvino Nichols, 57, of Carlsbad, was driving a Chevy sports utility vehicle around 8:30 p.m. on the highway through Lea County when he clipped a big rig driven by Victor Graciano, 52, of Dallas, according to state police.Nichols' vehicle overturned on its left side and slid for some distance, police said. Nichols was flown to UMC Hospital in Lubbock, where he succumbed to his injuries during surgery.Graciano was uninjured.Police said alcohol and driver inattention are suspected as contributing factors to the crash. Seat belts were used by both drivers.
