Lincoln County, OR : 40-year-old man killed in Highway 101 crash on Saturday, February 25, 2017

A 40-year-old Newport man was killed Saturday, Feb. 25, when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed on Highway 101 near Milepost 136, the Oregon State Police said in a report.

Edgar Mendez Romero died at the scene of the crash, which happened about 7:40 a.m.

"The involved vehicle, a green 2002 Ford Explorer, was northbound when the driver likely lost control due to icy conditions," the report states.

"The vehicle slid sideways across the highway and traveled over an embankment, coming to rest on its top in a small creek."
