Martinsville, VA : Victim identified in deadly Blairs crash on Friday, October, 27th 2017
The Virginia State Police have identified the person killed in a Friday wreck at U.S. 29 and Carters Lodge Road in Pittsylvania County.
Emma Belle Barksdale, 60, of Vernon Hill, died in the accident, according to the Virginia State Police.
The two-vehicle accident also injured four more. It was one of four accidents that took place between Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning.
Police responded to a call about the fatal crash around 3:44 p.m. Friday, Virginia State Police Trooper Keith Isom said Friday. It snarled traffic in both lanes for several hours.
Isom said a Dodge minivan pulled out from a car lot onto U.S 29 northbound at Carters Lodge Road, crashing into a Chevrolet Tahoe pulling a boat behind on a trailer.
Another accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 29 just south of Dry Fork Road, said Blairs Fire & Rescue Capt. Lance Fowler.
A man was headed south when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road from the left lane and overturned, Fowler said. The victim, who was lying in the middle of the road when responders arrived, said he was thrown from the vehicle, Fowler said.
He was transported to SOVAH Health-Danville and was in stable condition, Fowler said. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Further details were not available Saturday.
