Paradise, CA : Paradise woman dies after a traffic collision on Coutolenc Road on Sunday, January 1, 2017

A Paradise woman died Sunday after a traffic collision that the California Highway Patrol said was due to slick roads and unsafe speeds.

Donna Gilbertson, 53, of Paradise was a passenger in a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by her husband Robert Gilbertson, 54, on Coutolenc Road at about 2 p.m.

Snow was just starting to stick on the road, according to the CHP, when Gilbertson was attempting a left turn at about 35 mph. The back of the vehicle began to slide causing it to cross into the other lane in front of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Eva Prinz, 54, of Magalia.

Prinz braked but the truck hit the right side of the Gilbertson’s car.

In the passenger’s seat, Mrs. Gilbertson suffered severe internal injuries, according to the CHP, and was taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, where she was pronounced dead.

Gilbertson, who was also taken to Enloe, suffered minor injuries. Prinz sustained no injuries, according to the report.
