A University of Arkansas at Fayetteville student died Friday in a single-vehicle accident in Joplin, Mo., when a vehicle in which she was riding overturned multiple times on an embankment.

Alexis "Ali" Arguello, 21, of Hot Springs died at the scene, according to Joplin police. Police issued a statement that the driver of the car, 22-year-old Sophia Waller of Fayetteville, and 22-year-old passenger Lauren Rowell of The Woodlands, Texas, suffered minor injuries.

Waller, daughter of Matt Waller, the interim dean of the UA's Walton College of Business, was driving a 2008 Scion TC northbound on Missouri 249 near Interstate 44 when the vehicle left the roadway, according to Joplin police.

No citations have been issued and investigators have yet to determine how fast the vehicle was traveling, said Cpl. Joe Kowis with the Joplin police, adding that the investigation is ongoing. There is no indication that the driver was intoxicated, he said.

Arguello was involved in several campus organizations, including the Chi Omega sorority.

"Ali was a beautiful, kind and caring sister," the UA chapter of the sorority said in a statement. "Her presence will be greatly missed by all who've known her."
