Indianapolis,IN : Four died in fiery crash on I-70 near Wabash River on may, monday 15th 2017
The four people killed in a weekend crash on Interstate 70 west of Terre Haute have been identified.
State Police say the three-vehicle crash on eastbound I-70 happened shortly before 5:00 p.m. near the 4 mile-marker approaching the Wabash River.
Indiana State Police said Monday that the semi driver was 38-year-old Jeffrey Kolkman of Jenison, Michigan.
They say the three people in the car who were killed were 48-year-old driver Brian Lee and his 23-year-old son, Aaron Lee, both of West Terre Haute, Indiana, and 45-year-old Stephanie Swaim of Brazil, Indiana.
Fire crews were working on the shoulder of the road, clearing a semi that had a brake fire, when an eastbound semi failed to slow down and struck a passenger car in the rear, forcing the passenger car into the back of another tractor-trailer.
Police say the car erupted in flames and burned everybody inside. The tractor-trailer driver who failed to slow down was also pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
The second tractor-trailer driver, 49-year-old Eric C. Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas, was not injured.
Troopers believe the three people in the car may be from Indiana and the tractor-trailer driver who died may be from Michigan, but investigators are still working on identities and notifying families.
