Woodland, CA : 11-year-old Woodlander dies in three-car crash on I-5 on April, Thursday 13th 2017
A three-car collision occurred Thursday evening, claiming the life of an 11-year-old boy from Woodland.
The identity of the child has not yet been released.
The collision happened on southbound Interstate-5 just north of the Sacramento-Yolo county line, at the Sacramento River.
According to Yolo’s California Highway Patrol division, a 2009 GMC driven by Caleb Huiskens, 35, of Grass Valley, was unable to slow or stop when traffic came to a halt, causing the vehicle to rear-end a 2014 Ford driven by Salvador Linares, 25, of Woodland.
Linares’s Ford was carrying three passengers: Jonathan Heredia, 13, Rocio Garcia, 25 and the unnamed 11-year-old. All three of these passengers were immediately transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of major injuries, though the 11-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at the Medical Center.
The GMC also collided with a 2011 Honda driven by Emily Boling. Boling sustained no injuries.
The CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, the investigation of which is continuing.
