A utility van driver has died after plowing into the back of a semitrailer that was stopped at a traffic light Monday, authorities said.Randall Searcy, 46, was killed in the rear-end collision about 1 p.m. at 2100 South and 900 West, said Salt Lake City police Sgt. Brandon Shearer. Crews took Searcy to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Photos from the scene showed the van had crashed into the semitrailer's rear right corner, smashing through the van windshield and driver's side door.

The van also struck a Utah Transit Authority pickup truck, but that collision did not cause as much damage. The other drivers were cooperating with police, Shearer said.

Drugs, alcohol and icy roads were not believed to have played a role in the crash. Detectives were investigating whether distracted driving had been a factor.
