Lubbock, TX : One TTU student dead, 4 injured in car accident near Clovis in Roosevelt County on Sunday, March 20, 2016
The ride home from a spring break mission trip went terribly wrong for a group of students.
A Lubbock church is now mourning the loss of one man while they pray for the recovery of others fighting for their lives.
The Texas Tech Navigators, a christian, student-based organization, was headed back to Lubbock from a mission trip to San Diego when their car rolled.
New Mexico State Police confirm 26-year-old Jerry Davis of Plainview, was driving when he lost control of the vehicle.
Sergeant Chad Pierce with New Mexico State Police said the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on the opposite side of the road.
Davis, a father of three, died at the scene.
Police said passengers Ken Choi and Genesis Guevara were airlifted to UMC in Lubbock.
Passengers Hunter Hail and Alondra Guevara, Genesis' sister, were taken by ambulance to a Clovis Hospital.
However, UMC officials said Alondra would be transferred to UMC late Sunday night by ambulance.
Police said the accident happened just after 10 a.m. (CT) on US 60/84, just east of Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
Texas Tech Navigators said the students met with others in San Diego to work with the homeless over spring break.
They were less than two hours away from home when the crash happened.
Sergeant Pierce said they are still investigating the crash.
