Ayersville, OH : Defiance man dies in motorcycle accident in Highland Township, Defiance County on Tuesday afternoon, April 12, 2016
A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash
According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:43 p.m. at the intersection of Watson Road and Fullmer Road in Defiance’s County’s Highland Township, Defiance County.
A 2013 GMC pick-up driven by Phillip J. Wagner, 58, Defiance, was traveling eastbound on Watson Road and turned left onto Fullmer Road when it was struck by a 1984 Honda motorcycle, driven by Joshua Zimmer, 34, Defiance, who was traveling westbound on Watson Road. Wagner’s vehicle continued off the right side of Fullmer Road and Zimmer’s motorcycle came to rest on the roadway. The motorcycle caught on fire after the crash and was distinguished by Highland Township firefighters.
Zimmer was pronounced dead at the scene. Wagner was transported to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital by Highland Township Fire Department.
Troopers reported that Zimmer was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Wagner was wearing a safety belt.
The patrol was assisted by Defiance County Coroner, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, the Defiance Fire Department and the Defiance County Highway Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
