WINSTED, CT : Winsted police investigate bike accident on Wednesday, 12th February, 2020
Police are investigating what caused a motor vehicle to collide with a bicycle on Wheeler Street late Wednesday afternoon that caused non-life-threatening injuries to the two teenagers on the bike.
Officer Peter DeLouis would not identify the two teenagers – one boy and one girl – or their injuries but said they were both being treated at Connecticut Children’s Hospital in Hartford. One of them was flown there by a Life Star helicopter but he would not say whether that was the boy or the girl. He would not confirm reports that one of them may have suffered a broken leg.
DeLouis also would not identify the driver of the vehicle. He said police have not filed any charges against the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
The accident occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m., near the intersection with Fairview Avenue. That section of roadway was closed for nearly an hour. The bike was BMX-like in style and requires repair, DeLouis said.
