Bluefield, WV : Officials respond to fiery crash on I-77 on April,Thursday 13th 2017
Firefighters and the West Virginia State Police were dispatched late Thursday afternoon to a crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 77 near the Camp Creek exit.
The tractor-trailer caught on fire after the collision and ignited a brush fire, Fire Chief Tim Farley of the bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Department told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph from the scene. The crash was reported just after 5:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the 22 mile marker."I think only two vehicles were involved," Farley said. "A tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle with injuries."
The southbound tractor-trailer crossed into the northbound lanes and struck the passenger vehicle," he stated.
Southbound traffic was stopped momentarily until a helicopter ambulance could land and then take off. Traffic resumed after 6 p.m. First responders including the East River Volunteer Fire Department, the Princeton Rescue Squad and troopers with the state police were on the scene.
