Hutchinson, KS : Child injured in crash on a Hutchinson street on Thursday afternoon, July 7, 2016
A 2-year-old girl was airlifted to a Wichita hospital for head injuries after the vehicle she was riding in was struck by a large truck Thursday afternoon on a Hutchinson street.
The accident occurred around 1:33 p.m. at the intersection of Monroe Street and Fifth Avenue, when a southbound 2005 Pontiac Vibe four-door passenger car driven by Micaela J. Landrum, 21, of McPherson, ran a red light, according to Hutchinson Police Sergeant Brian Hirt.
An eastbound Nisly Freightliner truck driven by J.H. Nisly, 56, of Partridge, slammed into the passenger side of the Vibe. The truck hauls refuse roll-off Dumpsters, but was not hauling a Dumpster at the time.
Landrum was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for minor cuts and bruises. The child, who’s name was not released, was taken by ambulance to the Hutchinson hospital and then airlifted to Wesley Medical Center. Nisly was not injured.
Two witnesses reported Landrum disobeyed the signal and a video camera in the Nisly truck confirmed the witnesses’ statements, Hirst said.
All individuals involved in the accident were wearing seat belts and appropriate child restraints.
