LOS ANGELES, CA : Man accused of DUI following fatal 110 Freeway crash on Sunday, July 2, 2017
A 49-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he reportedly fatally struck a man and rear-ended his car on the 110 Freeway Sunday near downtown Los Angeles, officials said.
The two-vehicle crash occurred a little after 2:10 a.m. on the northbound freeway at 23rd Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A black 1999 BMW 323i was stopped in the No. 1 lane when the car’s driver, Reyes Lazaro, 49, decided to exit the vehicle and walk to the rear of it. A white 2003 Honda Accord, going 60 miles per hour, simultaneously struck Lazaro and his car, according to the CHP. Lazaro, a resident of Culver City, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda, Byung Mi, 49, of Cypress was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
The CHP reported that Lazaro’s next of kin had been notified of his death at about 6 a.m.
